This project was designed and built in the San Nicolas community of the El Pozon neighborhood in Cartegena, Colombia. Meant to serve as a place of gathering for the varying needs of the community, it was designed as an "inhabitable wall". As a grid of columns and beams, it was designed to recieve designs that were concieved through conversations between the community and design team. The project was built with the help of FEM Colombia, a non-profit working to alleviate poverty in Colombia. It was through them that the materials were recieved via donations.
It is able to recieve components that can plug in over time, as resources become available. Given this temporal component to this project, it was critical to provide the community a ‘construction manual’ to help the community build and plug-in additional components in the future. The conception and design of components were concieved based on discussions with the community and resources donated to build this project.
